The Arizona State University Community Health Worker Training Program (ASU CHW-TP) was developed to prepare Arizona residents to meet the core competencies identified by the Arizona Community Health Workers Association (AzCHOW). The program consists of 2 semesters of online curriculum with monthly virtual mentorship meetings and optional weekly study groups paired with an application process to help learners secure a 480 hour internship or a 2,000 hour apprenticeship with one of our community partners. These placements provide more specialized on-the-job training and mentorship to help learners succeed as a CHW.
The ASU CHW-TP is supported by a grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) through Fall 2025. Learners applying to the program who are new to the Community Health Worker (CHW) profession, or who currently work within health care and are not a current CHW, will be eligible for a $7,500 stipend over the course of the training program. Those who pursue an apprenticeship will be eligible for an additional $7,500 stipend that will be disbursed over the course of their apprenticeship.
This program is supported by HRSA, an administration within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as part of an award totaling $2,999,934 with 0% financed with non-governmental sources. The contents are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily represent the official views of, nor an endorsement, by HRSA, HHS, or the U.S. Government. For more information, please visit HRSA.gov.
We have reached capacity for our January 2024 cohort. We are still accepting applications for our third cohort beginning August 22 2024.
