Preparing Computer Equipment for the Move: A Visual Guide

What you will need:

Instructions for preparing a typical desktop computer or iMac

  1. Unplug and disconnect all computer equipment.
  1. Unlock all security locks on all equipment (this is uncommon).
  1. Place all computer keyboards, cords, cables, surge suppressors, webcam, mice ,and any small electronic devices in a clear Electronics Bag. Tape a label inside the bag so that the location is visible from the outside. The reason for the clear bags is so that Bruce Matsunaga and our UTO support personnel can assist in reconnecting your computers in the new building. Do not box the bagged computer equipment. Leave the bag on the desk/workstation for movers.

  2. Place a label on all computer CPUs (towers), monitors (on the stand), docking stations, scanners, and printers.

  3. Place a monitor wrap over your monitor or iMac from the top. The white wraps require a small amount of tape on the bottom while the pink wraps have an adhesive strip. For monitors and iMacs over 24”, you can use two wraps, attached from the sides and taped together. Be sure that the label is visible on the stand of the monitor/iMac.
